I recently got home from Bohol and now I’m re-packing my stuff to go to Singapore. I was going through some picture of our trip and noticed that they weren’t so nice. Anyway, since I have a few hours before our flight I’m going to write about Children of Nova’s Impossible Landscapes.

I was introduced to Children of Nova through last.fm while I was searching for bands similar to Closure in Moscow, a band I was infatuated with at that time. Check them out, too because they’re good.

Children of Nova’s first album The Complexity of Light made a good impression on me. I like the sci-fi/ fantasy story of the first album which reminded me of Coheed and Cambria a bit. My favorites were Arcaedion, The Complexity of Light and We Collide.

I learned that they were creating a new album a few months ago in their Facebook page where they posted a link to Kickstarter. I immediately decided that I want to back their project up since I was fairly happy with their first work.

So a few weeks ago, I received a copy of their digital album on my email. There were some technical difficulties but despite of that I was still one of the first handful of people to be able to listen to their new work. Then a week later, I received a package from the band. Inside was a letter, a copy of their poster with their signatures, and of course, a cd of their album.

Impossible Landscapes, on the other hand, is not a continuation of the concept of The Complexity of Light which kind of disappointed me because I want to know what happens next. Though I feel like some of its lyrics were at least inspired by the story.

It has a letter addressed to the CON Family. They were so sweet. :)

I was very happy upon receiving this.

I like the illustration on the cover of  Impossible Landscapes. It reminds me of Audrey Kawasaki’s works but this one is more vibrant.

The inside of their CD packaging. It also has their signatures.

So far I love the album, my favorite tracks are Erratic , Impossible Landscape, The Graceful Tragedy and It’s Just A Ride. Especially It’s Just A Ride, I play it repeatedly on iTunes.

The back of the CD cover. I really like the colors on their new album art.

I can’t elaborate well on how much I love their music but if you like The Mars Volta or Coheed and Cambria, you might want to try listening to this band.

I passed my thesis defense two days ago. It was a slow excruciating death, took me a year and few months to get the project done and about 10 minutes to present the whole thing. I was very lucky that my panelists were very kind. As to what my thesis is about, well, it’s about the Manunggul Jar. And I don’t want to explain this to you right now because I’ve been asked about this for several months now. It’s driving me crazy. So please bear with me.

Anyway, here is another WIP of the same drawing I had before. Again, please bear with me. Tougher times are ahead and I thought after the external defense it was over. Wrong! So without further ado here is something I worked on just tonight. I was getting impatient with the leaves so I went right ahead and colored it. Oh my gosh, I’m still talking aren’t I?

I live thirty minutes away from Mall of Asia, I’m not sure how accurate that is but whenever they have fireworks I can sometimes see it from our rooftop as I live in a high-rise condominium. Before I moved to our new place from another high-rise condo, I used to even see it in my own balcony. They used to have it every Friday and Saturday, though I’m not sure if they still do that now.

So I was looking through Mall of Asia’s directory a few weeks ago because I was searching for the shop where I bought my glasses. I lost the pair I had during our exhibit last December. I saw an announcement about the Third International Pyromusical Competition in their site which piqued my interest. I decided that I wanted to see this because I’ve never been to one.

My friend Anna and I went to buy gold tickets which cost us 300 PHP each. We watched South Korea and Malta’s performances. It was nice but the thing is in the gold area, we couldn’t see everything because of the trees and the posts. I also don’t have decent photos to show for this. We also walked from the right side of Mall Of Asia near Gerry’s Grill to the left side near Racks just to get a nice view. But we still ended with trees and posts blocking our view. Nonetheless, it was fun because even though, I was exhausted and was practically falling over the crepe I was eating before the show, the fireworks display was spectacular. I may not have liked the music because I was expecting original music from their countries turns out that most of the contestants used mixed tracks of pop songs. I may have caught some catchy Korean pop songs in South Korea’s mix but I am not a fan of Kpop, so there.

After watching the fireworks we ate at Racks and Anna ordered a huge pan fried fish fillet which she didn’t finish. Also we took some pictures of our cameras that day. I know, it sounds silly but we felt like we were Digital Rev at that time. Also I just want to share that Anna was at Lucy Hale’s Bench Event before the Pyromusical.

The second time I went to the Pyromusical was during our family dinner at Café Adriatico. That week’s contestants were Finland and Portugal. I especially liked Finland because they played Nightwish songs. And recently, I read that the fireworks company that represented Finland did the fireworks for Nightwish’s concerts.

My mom bought this special dinner for the family and it was nice except the food wasn’t that good and it was limited. I think we should’ve gone to Gumbo instead because even though it was much pricier there is a wide range of food you can choose from. And it’s seafood! I love seafood. Anyway, here are the pictures I took from the Pyromusical excluding the photos of our dinner. This post is getting long and I’m trying to stop myself from talking about food.

Background Design for Vessel

Underground River in Palawan - Background Design for my Graphic Novel

This one is the most elaborately done backgrounds in my project. I like doing it so much. I’ve spent too much time coloring the mountains and had left the land/sand and water quite a bit flat. Truth be told, it still lacks detail but since I had a limited amount of time, I was forced to leave it as it is now.

Also this is a web version, the original is 5,000 by 2,000 pixels in 300 dpi. My computer complained so much, that Photoshop froze during the final touches.

Every morning and every night I try to draw a leaf of this woman’s hair piece.

White Oak Woman

If you are a fan of art films, you might recognize this from Sergei Paradjanov’s film The Color of Pomegranates, also known as Sayat Nova.

The truth is I haven’t finished this film. But everything, just every single frame in this movie is so picturesque, so breath-taking, I can hardly believe that it’s a film.

Anyway, I’ll reveal more about this work and this collection if and when I finish it. In the meantime, I’ll leave you with this.
